NoFo @ the Pig for Lunch

Friend Marcia and I have lunch together every week or two, and this past week we chose NoFo @ the Pig as our destination.  Dan and I have eaten there quite frequently, but not recently, and Marcia had never eaten there, so this was a good choice.  The original NoFo restaurant is in Wilmington, NC on North Fourth Street (hence the name NoFo). The Raleigh one is in a building that formerly housed a Piggly Wiggly grocery store down at Five Points.  And the conversion into a restaurant has worked well.

Upstairs in the space the store once occupied is a gift store with all kinds of eclectic items.  The restaurant is downstairs where the storage area of the grocery store was, but it is light and airy with floor to ceiling windows installed during the renovation.

We each ordered the Spinach Burger when the waiter suggested it was a favorite, and we were not disappointed.  It consisted of a spinach patty served on a bun with lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese and roasted tomato aioli and a side of potato salad.

We each took half of ours home to the hubs, so we would have room for dessert.  The waiter had told us that the chef was rolling out a brand new dessert, Berries Napoleon.  That's what we had, and was it ever good.  There were alternating layers of buttery pastry and vanilla custard with fresh strawberries and blueberries.  The whole thing was topped with a serving of whipped cream and garnished with more berries.

I expect Berries Napoleon will be a hit and a keeper on their dessert menu.  I hope so, because I want to enjoy this delicious dessert again.
