Going "green" on Davis Street

Several years ago we installed four rain barrels at our house, and that summer when there were water restrictions here in Raleigh, we were able to keep our azaleas on the back bank alive by using rain water.  We conserved a lot of water and have continued to do so.

Earlier we had given up our small grassy lawn and used ground cover and pine bark for landscaping.  No lawn mowing which pleases Dan, and no need to use water for watering the lawn.  We save a lot of water there.

When we remodeled one of the bathrooms a couple of years ago, we installed a low flush toilet to replace the old one that used about 3 gallons of water per flush.  Now we have replaced the toilet in the master bath with a low flush one which will use 1.6 gallons per flush.  So now all of our toilets are low flush.

With the rain barrels, the use of ground cover in place of a lawn, and the low flush toilets we are doing our part in going "green".

Sunday, on Father's Day, Laura even brought Dan a "green" Father's Day card.  Made from recycled elephant dung---no kidding.
