We’re just back from Pictou which was celebrating the arrival in 1773 of the ship Hector carrying the first Scottish settlers to Nova Scotia.. Our log cabin at the Pictou Lodge provided a panoramic view of Northumberland Strait. The Lodge is pet friendly so Maggie enjoyed her stay there too.
On Saturday after chowder at the Stone Soup Café we walked along the waterfront to the quay where a replicate Hector is moored. Authentically costumed reenactors in colorful uniforms were camped near the Quay to depict the life of a Redcoat in the 1770's. Saturday evening dinner at Piper’s Restaurant was delicious (see my previous post).
Dan especially enjoyed the Hector and its museum where he had a useful talk with genealogist Alan Marble. My favorite was the music of the Pipe Bands on Sunday. The Cunard House is an example of the many beautiful old restored houses in town. A weekend was too little time to examine others. We must visit Pictou again.
