Just an 80 -plus -year- old grandmother who is keeping her mind active by posting some simple blogs from time to time. This gives me something to do that is somewhat creative each day. I have to remember how to take a few photos and once taken how to add them to my blog. Feedback is welcome. Photos by me unless otherwise noted.

First Summer Jacket Day
Maggie did quite well on her first airplane trip yesterday. Her Sherpa carrier fits snugly under the seat of the plane. The only time she displayed any apprehension was on our descent into Halifax and then only mild whining. While we were airborne and during our landing in Toronto, there was no sign of concern from her. In fact, like Dan, I think she slept most of the way.
I hesitate to mention that it is cool here in Nova Scotia today—cool enough for a jacket—since most of my friends and family are sweltering back in the southern United States. But yes indeed a jacket was required as we were out and about in Halifax
This morning we took the airport shuttle into Halifax, actually Dartmouth, just across the harbor from Halifax, where we picked up our rental car from Rent a Wreck. It’s a nice little Honda. We found that we are able to save quite a bit on a month’s rental by using Rent a Wreck compared to the cost of renting a car at the airport.
It’s so good to be back where we can get local, fresh seafood. Dan’s cousin, Becky, and her daughter Sherry met us for lunch at Murphy’s on the Wharf http://www.mtcw.ca/. The steamed mussels in a rich tomato and garlic broth were divine,.although Dan was a bit disappointed in his seafood chowder. Dan makes such delicious seafood chowder himself. that he has discriminating taste when it comes to chowder.
A trip to the Halifax waterfront is never complete without a visit to Cows ice cream parlor http://www.cows.ca/aboutcows/. In 2008 COWS Ice Cream was ranked No. 1 on the World's Top Ten Places for Ice Cream as determined by Tauck World Discovery. Maple-walnut is our favorite flavor, but unfortunately today that was unavailable so we tried a new flavor, Cowberry–a blend of strawberry, raspberry and blueberry. Delish!
Tomorrow we head for Cape Breton.
