Gadding About With A Blind Date

Yesterday was Valentine's and I thought what could be more romantic than a blind date.  I was to meet my blind date at the Cameron Village Public Library. I was so excited!  When I told my younger son, he expressed a bit of concern.  I assured him it was quite okay.

The Librarians had created a novel activity called a Blind Date with a Book.

I love books, so I thought how romantic!

Sure enough just in the entrance to the Library was a collection of gift-wrapped books, in colorful Valentine's Day paper.  Each book had a little synopsis, but no title.  You had to unwrap the gift to see who or what your blind date was.

I notice that many of the books that the Librarians had selected seemed to have a theme of love, marriage, or relationships.  How appropriate!

This is the "date" that I chose. 

I'm heading out of town for the weekend, and I'm taking my blind date with me.  I may even fall a sleep with my blind date beside me.  Thank you Librarians for a clever activity for Valentine's Day. And friends I hope you are not a bit disappointed, because you may have expected a different "blind date" for me.  : )

Be My Valentine

With Valentine's coming up, I thought back about when I was in elementary school in the late 40s and remembered the kind of valentines we would share with our class mates.  I would usually buy a bag or box full of valentines at Woolworth's and then go through them picking out ones for class mates, and putting them in the little envelopes with their names on them. At school we would put all our valentines in a large box and several students would then hand them out. 

I'm thinking I always made a card for every class mate.  I hope so.  There were probably some kids who didn't get many cards, and that was cruel.  I hope they don't exchange cards like this in school these days.  Anyway here are some old vintage cards very similar to the ones I would send. 

Of course we always had a card for our teacher.

Many of these seem pretty corny now, but it is a bit nostalgic looking back at these old cards.

Preview Night at the New Bern Antique Show 2013

Last night was the opening of the New Bern Antique Show where the public had an opportunity to have first dibs on items for sale.  The members of the New Bern Preservation Foundation (sponsor of the show) had wonderful fruit, cheese and wine offerings along with many different sweets.  Here are some photos I shot last night.

The sweets were brought around on trays.  There were so many delicious ones.

Cherries marinated in brandy and covered with chocolate.  So good.

One of the dealers near me always brings her dog, Simon, to the show.  Simon is always dressed to the nines.  Last night he was wearing his "tuxedo".  He's a delightful dog.  Always very well behaved.
