Lunch at Lawson's Landing Riverwalk Cafe

Lawson's Landing Cafe.

Lawson's Landing Cafe in NC History Center.
When I visited the North Carolina History Center last week in New Bern, I had lunch at Lawson's Landing Riverwalk Cafe, a contemporary cafe in the History Center that overlooks the Trent River.

I had a bowl of cream of crab soup with a toasted croissant.  It was delicious.  And for dessert I had a piece of Red Velvet Cheesecake.  Very good.

There are beautiful views out over the Trent River.  It's a nice place to have a light lunch or dinner and they also serve breakfast.

Sandy Point Cottage in New Bern, NC

Sandy Point Cottage in New Bern.

We have spent this week in Nick and Missy Mathews' Sandy Point Cottage in New Bern while I attended, as a dealer,  the New Bern Antique Show.  The cottage is situated on the Neuse River with a beautiful view of the New Bern skyline across the way. We've had a kind of mini-vacation here.

Bottle tree in Mathews' yard.
Beautiful sink in one of the bathrooms of Sandy Point Cottage.
We enjoyed our stay here in Sandy Point Cottage and in New Bern.

Lane and Hamilton* at the New Bern Antique Show

Lane and Hamilton Antiques & Collectibles at New Bern Antique Show.
I'm a vendor at the New Bern Antique Show for the 10th year.  I always have a good show here and most of all I have a good time.  Here are some of the items in my Lane and Hamilton* booth.

* Some ask the significance of the name of my antique business.  It's the middle names of my two sons:  Patrick Lane and Michael Hamilton.

Mitchell Hardware in Downtown New Bern

Mitchell Hardware in downtown New Bern.
Dan always manages to "need" something from Mitchell Hardware whenever we are in New Bern, but I know he just can't resist the urge to visit once again this authentic turn of the century (not the twenty-first century either) hardware store that's been in business since 1898.  I know, because I can't resist either.
Some things I saw on Wednesday.

The Bear Cupboard: CAPTAIN RATTY'S RESTAURANT

Captain Ratty's Restaurant (Photo by Sylvia F. at Yelp.com website.)
Whenever Dan and I are in New Bern we usually have a meal at Captain Ratty's Restaurant.  I discovered a wonderful blog, The Bear Cupboard, that covers New Bern, its food and its people and it has a great post about Captain Ratty's Restaurant that I will share with you today. We are very much looking forward to a meal at Captain Ratty's this week.

Off to New Bern, NC

The New Bern Convention Center (Photo from NB Convention Center Website).
We're heading to New Bern where I'll be a dealer at the Antique Show sponsored by the New Bern Preservation Foundation that will be held  Friday through Sunday at the New Bern Convention Center.  I've participated in this Antique Show for the last ten years, and it's always been a great show and a lot of fun.  I'll be reporting on other interesting things to do in New Bern and although we'll be renting a cottage for the week and doing some of our own cooking I'm sure we will hit some of the good restaurants while there. Stay tuned for adventures in New Bern.
Van is packed and we're off.
