Happy Anniversary to Bea and Wayne

Bea and Wayne Kearney are celebrating their 9th wedding anniversary today.  Happy Anniversary you two. Bea has been our long-time friend and housekeeper for many years. I first met Bea when she kept the offices (including my office),  classrooms, and laboratories in the Franklin Science Building at Louisburg College in ship-shape condition.  And for many years we have depended on her to keep our house in order.  I don't know what I would do without our weekly visits from Bea.

In 2003 Bea married Wayne in a beautiful ceremony in Louisburg.  Dan and I are as fond of Wayne as we are of Bea.  They are a great couple.  Here are some photos from their wedding.

Red, White, and Blue for July 4th

If you're celebrating the Fourth of July and would like to make a festive dish, try this red, white and blue Jello. This recipe was submitted to Allrecipes.com by Madel Yoder.
I made this last night, and we will enjoy having this today to celebrate the Fourth.

Red, white and blue Jello.

 Ingredients

• 1 (3 ounce) package berry blue gelatin
• 2 cups boiling water, divided
• 1/2 cup cold water, divided
• 1 (3 ounce) package strawberry gelatin
• 1 (15 ounce) can pear halves, drained and cubed

Directions 

In a bowl, dissolve the gelatin in 1 cup boiling water. Stir in 1/4 cup cold water. Pour into an ungreased 9-in. x 5-in. x 3-in. loaf pan. Refrigerate until firm. Repeat with strawberry gelatin and remaining boiling and cold water. When gelatin is set, cut into cubes. Just before serving, gently combine gelatin cubes and pears in a large glass bowl or individual dishes.

Back to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

We are back in Cape Breton, our second home!  It's so beautiful here.  I hope you enjoy this video and song about Cape Breton.

Canada Day Covered Dish Supper

We had a good time at the Covered Dish Supper on Saturday night at the Marble Mountain Community Hall to celebrate Canada Day.  There is always a good crowd at these Marble Mountain suppers because MM is known for its excellent cooks.  And again we were not disappointed.  There was a lot of delicious food, and it was good to see friends and neighbors.    We took a red and white jello dish (red and white are the colors of the Canadian flag) and a dish of maple-glazed walnut halves.

It was good to see old friends and make new ones. I understand there will be another supper at the Hall in August.  Oh good, we'll be there.

Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day everyone.

Canada Day is the national day of Canada, a federal holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the Constitution Act, 1867,  which united three colonies into a single country called Canada.  Canada Day observances take place throughout Canada as well as internationally.  Canada Day is the equivalent of our (US) July 4. Since July 1 is on Sunday, Monday will be a national holiday.
